pdfup ("we", "us", "our") is fundamentally a privacy-focused service. This Privacy Policy outlines our unwavering commitment to protecting your privacy. Our core principle is simple: your files are your files. We do not and cannot view, access, store, or share your documents. All PDF processing occurs entirely on your own computer, within your web browser (client-side).
Unlike other online PDF services, pdfup does not upload your files to a server for processing. The tools you use are powered by JavaScript and WebAssembly libraries that run directly on your device. This means your data never leaves your computer, providing you with the highest level of privacy and security.
Because of our client-side architecture, we are technically incapable of collecting the following information:
pdfup uses two kinds of analytics: one that runs without cookies, and one that is optional and runs only with your consent.
Always on: Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookieless, does not fingerprint your device, does not create a profile of you, and does not follow you across other websites. It reports aggregate page-view counts only. It is operated by Cloudflare, Inc. on our behalf; because it stores nothing on your device, it does not require consent under the GDPR or the ePrivacy Directive. Optional, only with your consent: Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) and Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation). These set cookies and other identifiers so we can see which tools visitors actually use, where they arrive from, and how the interface can be improved; Clarity additionally records session replays and heatmaps. Neither service is loaded until you press "Accept" in the banner shown on your first visit. Before that, nothing is requested from Google or Microsoft and no cookie or identifier is set. If you press "Reject", nothing is loaded and your choice is remembered.
Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage
(pdfup.analytics.consent.v1). It is not sent to us, and it
disappears if you clear your browser data — in which case we simply ask
again. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with the
Manage cookie preferences button below, or by blocking cookies
in your browser. Withdrawing stops Clarity from collecting anything and
returns Google Analytics to a cookieless, aggregated mode; cookies that
were already set remain in your browser until you delete them.
Whichever choice you make, no analytics data ever includes the content of your PDF files, because all file processing happens entirely in your browser (see Section 1). See Google's privacy policy and Microsoft's privacy statement for how those providers handle the data they receive. Google also offers an Analytics opt-out browser add-on if you would rather opt out everywhere; a content blocker achieves the same thing here, and our "Reject" button does it without installing anything.
pdfup is built using powerful, open-source libraries like PDF-lib.js and PDF.js. These libraries are trusted by developers worldwide and operate under the same client-side principle. While we have vetted these libraries, we encourage you to review their respective privacy policies for your own peace of mind.
Since your files are never transmitted over the internet to our servers, you are protected from potential data breaches during transit or storage on a server. The security of your documents is in your hands and protected by the security of your own computer and web browser.
Our services are not directed at individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us, and we will take steps to delete such information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
