The alternate merge PDF tool combines multiple PDFs by rotating through their pages instead of appending one complete file after another. If you upload File A and File B, the output can become A page 1, B page 1, A page 2, B page 2, and so on. This is also called interleaving PDF pages, mixing PDF pages, or alternating PDF merge.
Upload at least two PDF files, then drag them into the order you want. The first file in the list contributes the first page in each round, the second file contributes the next page, and the pattern continues until all pages are used. Click Mix Pages to generate the interleaved PDF and download the result.
Use alternate merge when you need to pair scanned front and back pages, mix PDF pages from bilingual versions, combine question pages with answer pages, or build before-and-after review packets. It is also useful when separate systems export odd and even pages, covers and inserts, or document sections that need to be woven back together.
All PDFs are processed locally in your browser, so your files are not uploaded. The output is a single mixed PDF that follows the file order you set. Original documents remain unchanged, and the result is ready for review, printing, archiving, or additional cleanup with other PDFup tools.

PDF page alternating, also known as interleaving or shuffling, is the process of combining multiple PDF documents by taking pages from each file in a specific sequence. Unlike simple merging which appends files end-to-end, alternating creates a new document with pages taken from each source in rotation.
Common uses for alternating PDF pages:
Key Features
Select 2 or more PDF documents. Drag and drop or click to browse. Files are processed locally - never uploaded to servers.
Drag files to set the alternating sequence. Page 1 from File A, page 1 from File B, page 2 from File A, etc.
Download your new interleaved PDF document. Original files remain unchanged on your device.
The tool continues alternating until the shortest PDF runs out of pages, then appends the remaining pages from longer PDFs. Example:
Yes! You can alternate between any number of PDF files (up to 20). The tool will take page 1 from each file in your specified order, then page 2, and so on.
Yes, bookmarks from all source PDFs are preserved and adjusted to point to their new page positions in the mixed document. However:
There are no artificial limits on file size or page count. The only limits are your device's memory and browser capabilities:
Alternating creates an interleaved document, while regular merging appends files sequentially:
